Plat4mation Contributes to Two African Hospitals

3 minutes

Plat4mation is proud to announce the expansion of its philanthropic efforts in Africa. Last year, we donated some of our old laptops to the Magbenteh Community Hospital in Makeni, Sierra Leone, to help improve their workflow. In addition to this ongoing support, we are extending our assistance to St. Kizito Hospital in Mikumi, Tanzania. This year, we have extended our commitment to continue our support to healthcare professionals in these communities.

Our Support for the Magbenteh Community Hospital and the St. Kizito Hospital

Last year, Willem Zeiler, Platform Architect at Plat4mation, partnered with Dr. Inge Hendriks, a doctor at Magbenteh Community Hospital, to donate 20 laptops to the facility. Building on this effort, an additional 10 laptops will be donated this year to enhance the staff’s computer literacy skills further. The new laptops will also provide healthcare professionals with access to valuable study resources, helping them stay current with the latest knowledge and best practices in their field.

This year, in association with the Friends of Mikumi foundation, we are donating 16 additional laptops to another hospital – St. Kizito Hospital in Mikumi, Tanzania. Earlier this year, our colleague Aideen O’Donovan’s boyfriend, who worked there for three months, noticed that there was a lack of operational efficiency due to limited access to technology. Inspired by the initiative of the previous year, Aideen coordinated with Willem to donate 16 laptops, six of which she delivered personally in late May.

“The joy and gratitude from the hospital staff and students were overwhelming. These laptops will significantly aid the students in their studies and help the hospital staff in their daily operations”, says Aideen.

Impacting Lives Through Technology

This initiative goes beyond merely providing hardware; it’s about empowering the next generation of healthcare professionals. By supporting their education and equipping them with essential tools, we contribute to building a better future for these communities. Furthermore, in areas where medicine is scarce, accurately tracking inventory is crucial and can save lives. Using tools such as Excel instead of relying on handwritten notes will significantly reduce risks associated with errors and lost information.

Dr. Inge Hendriks emphasized the impact by saying, “The laptops are used to improve the computer skills of the staff, so in the long run, electronic health records can be introduced. They will also be used to enhance healthcare for patients by making study resources more accessible.”

Repurposing Old Laptops to Enhance Digital Literacy

In line with one of our core values of making the world a better place, we chose to responsibly repurpose the old laptops from our offices. Instead of disposing of them, we equipped the laptops with essential software and licenses, ensuring they were ready for immediate use. Our commitment went beyond merely donating the laptops; we also provided training for the recipients, enabling them to use the devices effectively and maximize their impact.

A Step Towards a Brighter Future

The initiative has resonated deeply within Plat4mation, inspiring both long-time employees and new joiners. Alongside Willem and Aideen, our IT colleagues Karim Ladki and Vikram Raju Reddicherla, as well as our Chief Technology Officer Thijs Daeman, have played an essential role in driving these efforts forward for two consecutive years. Recently, Willem Zeiler received a token of appreciation from the hospital, a gesture that highlights the profound impact of our efforts. By enabling smart and hardworking individuals in less fortunate circumstances, we are making work flow for people who make great things happen.
